Better Wife or Better Officemate?

I am one of the few wives who, fortunately or unfortunately, work with their husbands.

We actually met in the same office where we work now. He left some two months before the wedding and got pirated back eight months after he resigned. In a way, it was a very good thing that happened to him. Minus the intrigues, of course. He got recognized for his talent and intelligence and this made him earn more than he did before. He didn't get promoted (despite original offer to him) and so we are at the same level, with a wide gap in salary.

I don't mind as wife. As an office mate, well, my salary leaves much to be desired.

Given that we are on the same level, we are pretty much overloaded with work. We are also working on some projects together. I managed them, while he's the end user.

This sometimes causes conflicts in our relationship. But only during work hours. Sometimes I get confused if I talk to him as an office mate or as a wife.

But it's a good deal, too, since we cut out all the red tape between our departments.

We have managed to stick with a rule that we don't discuss shop at home. This cannot be totally avoided since I have to work at home on some weekends and holidays. When we get to the car, we discuss work and our day like ordinary couples would (sometimes make chismis, too.) But when we enter our home, it's our time together or do our own thing.

There are fringe benefits that I am grateful for. Like going to and from work without worries cause I get to have a driver, as well as a husband and an office mate. Though the saves on fare normally goes to the gas and parking. A lunch mate who makes me baon in the morning, but who I have to cook for the night before.

I know I am good at what I do at work. I've been told and recognized so by my colleague and my bosses. But who can tell me that I am a good wife? Only my husband could.

With him seeing how I conduct myself in both arenas, sometimes I think I'm a better office mate to my husband, than I am as his wife.
